Macon County receives approximately $1 million in services each year.  Here are some of the programs which UCHRA currently supports:

Elderly Nutrition Program.  This program delivers nutritious, hot meals to elderly residents either in their homes or in the Senior Citizens Center.  Volunteers are always needed to help provide this service within Macon County.  Please call (615) 666-3377 for more information.

UCARTS car UCARTS van

Upper Cumberland Area Rural Transit System  (UCARTS).  UCARTS vans criss-cross the county bringing riders into town from their rural homes to transact business in Lafayette or Red Boiling Springs, or simply to visit with friends, go to the doctor's office or run errands.

The fare is just $1.00 plus 25 cents per stop for rides within Macon County.  Please schedule your ride 24 hours in advance and let the dispatcher know if you will require a van with a wheelchair lift.

With a five-day notice, riders can schedule rides to doctors and medical facilities in Nashville, Cookeville, Lebanon and Gallatin.

UCHRA Child Care Programs.  These programs offer many services for Macon County children and low-income families through reduced or free child care.

Homemaker Aide.  This program serves the frail elderly as well as young or old who are under protective service by the Department of Human Resources.  This vital program offers individuals and families simple services such as house cleaning, minor errand service, and even a simple meal cooked at home in an effort to help individuals remain independent as long as possible, rather than being placed in institutional care.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).  SCSEP helps older residents remain active in the community by learning new skills.  Individuals may be seeking full-time or part-time employment in private, non-profit or public sector jobs.

Child And Adult Care Food Program.  This program provides free meals to children and adults in private day care homes.

Community Intervention for Juvenile Offenders

Community Intervention for Juvenile Offenders.  This program helps reduce the number of youths committed to institutions by allowing them the opportunity to remain in their communities under intensive supervision.  These individuals may receive alcohol treatment, drug treatment, community service work, family counseling, individual counseling, education assistance and/or employment assistance.

Community Intervention for Juvenile Offenders has received a grant for a one-year program beginning 10/1/2002.  The program is named TRY-IT, Training Resources for Youth In Tennessee.  Youths are classified into what type of problems they are having: drugs and alcohol; anger and management; family interactions.  The first two programs are 12-week programs; the third is a 10-week program.

Cumberland Home and New Chance Experience (CHANCE)
Residential Center.

CHANCE, located in Bloomington, Tennessee, is a home for up to 16 adolescent girls.  Residents receive around-the-clock psychiatric and psychological counseling, on-campus education, vocational training, and independent living skills training.  The goal of CHANCE is to return adolescent girls to their communities where they can be productive citizens.

CHANCE, located at Indian Mound Farm in DeKalb County, Tennessee, provides similar services for adolescent boys.

Macon County Career Center.  UCHRA works hand-in-hand with the Macon County Career Center to help find people jobs.  Please click here for more information on the Macon County Career Center.

For details on any of these services, or to discuss your particular situation, please call the UCHRA Macon County office at (615) 666-3377.
