Attention Macon County Three-Star Committee Members
1)  If you would like to have your own copy of the 2007 Three-Star Manual, you may download and/or print this pdf file here. The document is 73 pages long and details the requirements on each of the tasks on the Three-Star score sheet.  Please note that the Three-Star score sheet distributed by Linda McCrary contains the page number for each task, so you may only need to print out the pages that match your tasks.  2)  Here is a free Microsoft download that you can use to read Excel files.  It works even if you do not have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer.  This may be useful to read the score-sheet updates e-mailed by Linda.

Macon County welcomed visitors from Lewis County on June 12, 2007, as part of the Three-Star Community Connections Program.

Earlier in the year, a group from Macon County visited Lewis County.  As both counties are Three-Star, the two visits enable the counties to learn from each other.  This is a valuable learning experience and a part of what makes the Three-star program so important.

During Lewis County's visit to Macon County, groups from both Three-Star teams had lunch in Red Boiling Springs.

See a video of the lunch.  (QuickTime; 1 minute, 33 seconds; 2.2 MB)

Macon County is proud to be a Tennessee Three-Star Community.

The Three-Star Program was created over 23 years ago to help Tennessee position itself as a leader in economic and industrial development.  The communities that receive the Three-Star Award have demonstrated the highest levels of economic performance. They continue to experience success with more new projects, expansions, jobs and capital investments.

Macon County has been a Three-Star Community since 1994.

THREE-STAR REQUIREMENTS

To be known as the "best of the best", each community seeking Three-Star status must meet a set of detailed requirements in areas such as Community Development, Economic Planning, Education and Work Force Development.

Communities that meet these requirements receive special incentives from the State of Tennessee.  These incentives include extra grant money and extra points in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) non-economic development competition.

For more information, please visit the State of Tennessee's Three-Star home page: http://www.state.tn.us/ecd/3star.htm
