Services
Commodity Programs and Commodity Loans
FSA administers commodity programs for wheat, corn, grain sorghum, barley, oats,
rye, oilseeds, tobacco, peanuts, milk, cotton, sugar and honey. FSA makes
Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) loans to eligible farmers using the stored
crop as collateral.
Noninsured Crop Disaster Program
NAP provides coverage for eligible crop losses due to natural disasters on crops
not covered under the Federal Crop Insurance Program. Eligible crops
include those produced for food, livestock feed, fiber, mushrooms, floriculture,
honey, aquaculture, Christmas trees, ginseng, ornamental nursery, and turf grass
sod. Service fees are $100 per crop, not to exceed $300 per county.
The application dates vary by crop. Check at the FSA for a listing and
other program details.
Farm Loans
FSA has direct and guaranteed farm ownership and operating loan programs to help
farmers who are temporarily unable to obtain private, commercial credit.
In many cases, these are new beginning farmers who have insufficient net worth
to qualify for commercial credit.
Rural Youth Loans
The FSA makes operating loans to individual rural youths ages 10 through 20 to
establish and operate income-producing projects. Some common projects
include livestock production, crop production, lawn and garden services, repair
shops and roadside stands.
Disaster & Emergency Assistance
In the aftermath of a natural disaster, FSA can provide a variety of emergency
assistance programs to farmers in the disaster area.
Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
The Conservation Reserve Program reduces soil erosion, protects the Nation's
ability to produce food and fiber, reduces sedimentation in streams and lakes,
establishes wildlife habitats, and enhances forest and wetland resources.
It encourages farmers to convert highly-eroded cropland or other
environmentally-sensitive acreage to vegetative cover such as tame or native
grasses, wildlife plantings, trees, filterstrips or riparian buffers.
Farmers receive an annual rental payment for the term of the multi-year
contract. Cost sharing is provided to establish the vegetative cover
practices.
Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP)
ACP is the primary means for FSA to help farmers and ranchers carry out
conservation and environmental practices nationwide.
