Host an AFS Exchange Student!
AFS Intercultural Programs is a non-profit organization that places exchange
students into homes all around the world, including in Middle Tennessee.
Host families basically accept an exchange student from another country into
their home for 11 months. The student attends your local high school
and learns about life in the United States firsthand. This is a truly
amazing experience for both the exchange student and the host family. Please

CPR/First Aid Training
Constable Tom Dallas is available to provide CPR/First Aid training for
businesses/agencies and other community groups such as scout troops, churches,
clubs, schools, etc. He can handle groups not larger than 6 persons at a
time in classes. CPR-only is 4 to 5 hours, and CPR/First Aid is about a 6
to 7 hour class.

2X2 Ranch is located in the rolling hills of the Tennessee/Kentucky border. Our
mission is to bring an awareness of the problem of pet overpopulation by
educating our community regarding the need to spay and neuter, provide low cost
or free spay/neuter assistance to those who could not afford the cost, and to do
all we can to rescue abused, abandoned and neglected animals. We adopt cats and
dogs into loving homes through Petfinder, Petco, Petsmart and Rally to Rescue

Lyme Disease Support Network of Middle

This organization provides information and support for people who have (or
might have) Lyme Disease and other tick-borne related illnesses. Lyme
Disease is becoming more and more common in Tennessee. The disease is
spread by tick bites, but it can be hard to diagnose and treat. Early
symptoms can include rashes, fever, malaise, fatigue, headache, muscle and
joint aches, and others. Later symptoms (which can occur a month or
more after the tick bite) can include fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain with or
without arthritis, numbness, tingling, burning, itching, tremor, muscle
twitching, Bell's palsy, vision problems (e.g., double vision), sensitivity to
light or motion or sound, balance problems, short-term memory loss, sleep
disturbance, nausea or vomiting, and others. The support group holds monthly

Journeys of Hope Inc. is a non-profit faith-based organization serving the
Middle Tennessee rural Counties, We serve individuals and families who suffer
from substance addiction as well as offer wide spectrum of services for the
adult and adolescent population. Fees are on a sliding scale according to
income, to better serve those below median income or who do not have insurance.

The Portland Housing Authority operates 30
units of public housing in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. They have

Learning Steps
Ms. Bellar runs Learning Steps, a preschool educational program, at
Fellowship Hall at the United Methodist Church of Lafayette. This is an
excellent program to give children the assistance they might need before
entering kindergarten. The program is open to children as young as
3-years-old; however, it is mostly for children who will enter kindergarten in
one to two years. The cost of the program is $80 per month.

American Red Cross
Provides a variety of services including disaster relief, blood services,
services to military families, CPR classes and emergency shelter.
Boy Scout Troop #405
Designed to instill higher values in the youth of Macon County by developing
self-confidence, responsibility and good moral ethics. United Way funds
are used to supplement summer camp costs, field trips and uniform purchases.
Cub Scout Pack #402
Assists boys in first through fifth grades to develop good character,
citizenship, sportsmanship and self-esteem. Prepares boys to take on the
challenges of their futures.
Middle Tennessee Boy Scout Council
Provides facilities for summer camp and special assistance when needed.
Girl Scouts of Macon County
Offers girls ages five to 17 personal growth and enrichment experiences under
trained adult leadership. Programs are designed to deepen values, expand
learning, develop interpersonal skills and create opportunities for
contributions to others and the community.
Lafayette Little League
Monies contributed to the Little League help provide necessary equipment and
supplies.
Red Boiling Springs Little League
Monies contributed to the Little League help provide necessary equipment and
supplies.
Lafayette - Macon County Senior
Citizens Center
Provides recreation, education, and arts and crafts activities for aged Macon
County citizens for the mutual benefit of themselves and others.
Lazurus House
Provides hospice services for terminally-ill patients as well as counseling and
support for patients and their families.
Macon County Parks and Recreation
Sponsors youth softball leagues for pre-teen and teenage girls during the summer
months.
Macon County Rescue Squad
Provides emergency services to Macon County citizens. These services
include responding to auto accidents and other medical emergencies. In
addition, Macon County Rescue Squad assists with searches for lost individuals.
Macon Helps
Provides emergency assistance with food, clothing, utilities, rent, household
furnishings and prescriptions to Macon County citizens in need. Macon
Helps also operates an emergency shelter.
Pacesetters, Inc.
Provides intensive training to adults in Macon County who have mental
retardation. Their focus is on integrated community activities for the
clients served. United Way funds are used to supplement the cost of
transporting clients to the work site.
