There are actually four different courts that fall under the jurisdiction of the Macon County Circuit Court Clerk.

John D. Wootten, Jr.
John D. Wootten, Jr.

Circuit Civil
This court handles cases such as divorce and workers compensation.  The judges for this court are the Honorable Clara Byrd and the Honorable John D. Wootten, Jr.  Judge Byrd normally works out of Wilson County, but travels to Macon County for court.  Judge Wootten is a native of Macon County and serves Jackson, Macon, Smith, Trousdale and Wilson counties which comprise the 15th Judicial District of Tennessee.

Circuit Criminal
This court handles cases such as murder and armed robbery.  The judges for this court are the Honorable J.O. Bond and the Honorable John D. Wootten, Jr.  Judge Bond normally works out of Wilson County but travels to Macon County for court.  Judge Wootten is a native of Macon County and serves Jackson, Macon, Smith, Trousdale and Wilson counties which comprise the 15th Judicial District of Tennessee.

General Sessions Civil
This court handles cases involving amounts less than $15,000.  An example might be when a bank sues a person in order to recover money.  The judge for this court is the Honorable Ken Witcher.  Judge Witcher is an attorney in Lafayette.

General Sessions Criminal
This court handles cases such as driving while intoxicated.  The judge for this court is the Honorable Ken Witcher.  Judge Witcher is an attorney in Lafayette.

 

In addition to handling the four courts, the Macon County Circuit Court Clerk is also responsible for the operations of the Misdemeanor Probation Office.
