JULY

CONCERT IN THE PARK: - July 10th , 2010 -7:00 p.m. “Jett Williams and the Men of Steel”. Held at Key Park, Lafayette, TN. Rain Venue will be MCHS auditorium. Concert is FREE to the public. Sponsored by the Macon County Arts Council. Contact Nancy Doss at: 615-644-5179

FREE Computer Training.  July 17, 2010.  Free computer training that will be offered on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at TTCH/Tri-County Extension Campus in Red Boiling Springs.  This event is sponsored by the Macon Co. P-16 Council/Post Secondary Education Team, Tennessee Tech University, and Tennessee Technology Center Hartsville. 

 BENEFIT BIKE RIDE - July 10, 2010 - Fourth Annual Jonathan Hudson Memorial Scholarship And Bike Ride, July 10, 2010.  Starts at Walmart in Lafayette, Tennessee.  Starts at 1:00 p.m. and returns to Walmart.  Food and fun, lots of prizes.   Grand prize: a flat screen TV.  Many more giveaways.   Raffle: $1.00 each, 7 for $5.00.  Everything we make goes to Jonathan's fund.  In four years, we have given $4,500.00!  Come on down and help us out!

SMALL BUSINESS CONSULTING - July 21.  Charles Alexander, Director of the Tennessee Small Business Center at Volunteer State Community College will be at the Macon County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, July 21 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The TSBDC offers free and confidential one-on-one counseling for existing and start-up small businesses. Small-Business-Survival Workshop:  July 30, 2010.  The Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) and the Macon County Chamber of Commerce will be providing a free training workshop for small businesses entitled “Small Business Survival in Rough Economic Times.”   The workshop will be held at the Leon & Marie Cothron Macon County Welcome Center, (685 Highway 52 Bypass West, Lafayette, TN 37083) on Friday, July 30th from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m.   The free training event is designed to address a wide range of steps business owners can take to preserve cash and maintain business operations during the present national economic recession.   Light refreshments to be served.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL ART SHOW. September 18.  All three-dimensional artists and craftsperson's are invited to enter Macon County Arts Council's first 3-dimensional arts festival entitled "Nature's Arts -- A Craft Market".  The event will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., on the grounds of the Thomas House in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. The market will be open to all artists, both professional and amateur, who are 18 years of age or older.  All artists must work in a 3-dimensional medium derived from natural materials. Each artist will have his or her own booth.  Acceptable media includes clay, wood, glass, basketry, flint knapping, or any similar craft that specifically uses natural materials. Stitchery will not be acceptable.   There will be a one-time $25 fee for booth rental for the market.  That is the only cost.  All sales are for the artists' benefit and no further commission is required by the arts council. Entry forms are available from Frame It in Lafayette, or by phoning Ricky Wilson at 666-6081 or Nancy Doss at 644-5179.  Entry forms should be returned by August 15.
